"New" item obscured by Gnome menu bar. none

Description Blessed Geek CLA 2012-06-10 23:43:01 EDT
Build Identifier: Eclipse Build id: M20120208-0800, Springsource Build Id: 201205071000

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS/Unity/Gnome3 has an Apple-esqe common/integrated menubar, which every application window should/would use, rather than each window having its own menu bar.

Under certain conditions, that menubar obscures the first item of the context menu of Eclipse Package Explorer.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Have sufficient number of projects in the workspace, such that Package Explorer will be filled at least more than half.
2. Select a (non-folder) file item that is found near the bottom rows of Package Explorer (or at least vertically past halfway the display area of Package Exploroer).
3. Right-click on that item to invoke the context menu.
4. Look for the "New" item to try to create a new project.
5. "New" being the first item of the context menu is obscured by Gnome's integrated menu bar.

"New" item obscured by Gnome menu bar.

The workaround when attempting to invoke "new" is to be aware of the "New" item being hidden by the menu bar and click on an area of the gnome menu bar which overlaps with the hidden "New" item and the hidden "New" menu item would somehow be invoked.

Another workaround is to collapse all projects so that the project listed last in Package explorer is listed above the halfway height of the Project Explorer panel.

The reason being is that:

(if the explorer context menu has too many items exceeding half the height of the explorer panel)

when the line being right-clicked is above the halfway height of the explorer panel, the context menu exerts itself to be as bottom of the screen as possible. Whereas, if the line being right-clicked is below the halfway height, the context menu exerts itself to be as top of the screen as possible.

Unfortunately, even though eclipse complies with Gnome 3 integrated menu system (and is therefore aware of the integrated menu) Eclipse Package Explorer does not take into account that the context menu has occupied the top most line of the screen.

Moving to SWT.

Can any Ubuntu users confirm whether this bug is still an issue?

I cannot reproduce this bug on my Ubuntu 17.04 VM.
