Using "Open extension point schema" from the manifest/plugin > Extensions page opens the corresponding .exsd in a read-only mode even when it's a file in the workspace.

From doing some introspection using the live model editor (too cool), the editor input is a FileStoreEditorInput.

But it works that way in 3.8 as well.  Maybe it always provided the plugin schema instead of what's available from the project in the workspace.

The same issue was reported in bug 172721 but fixed. But that patch only works for projects under the workspace root and won't work for projects outside of the workspace(my usual mode of operation).

Marking as "helpwanted" as this could be a good issue to use as practical exercise during a hackathon.
However, if anyone has the opportunity to fix it soon, independently of a hackathon, that's still welcome ;)

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
