This bug is to track discussion, plans, and work regarding the technique to implement builds of the Eclipse platform in parallel using the PDE build & new CBI build.

Proposal:

Until Juno SR1, the PDE built Eclipse platform is the "master" and will be used to create packages for the downloads site.

At Juno SR1, the CBI built Eclipse platform becomes the "master"

Requirements:

At each stage, we must be able to distinguish between the output of each build to avoid confusion.

When we switch at SR1, it is important to avoid re-downloading all bundles (CBI built versions to replace PDE built ones that have not changed)

I fund the wording vague. It could be interpreted as saying that nothing is going to happen until after SR1 ships.

I think you mean to say that SR0 will ship based on the PDE build, and that SR1 will ship on the CBI build. For this to happen, I would assume that the milestone and RC builds for SR1 will need to run on CBI. Are we operating under the same set of assumptions?

Confirmed, the candidate builds for Juno SR1 will be based on the CBI-built Eclipse platform.
