It looks like that gradient issue in the toolbar is correct on Windows (see Kai's blog post screenshot here: http://www.toedter.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/m6-icons.png) but incorrect on Linux (see Denis's screenshot attached here). Created attachment 217402 [details]

eclipse 4.2RC3
I can verify that Eclipse 4.2 looks terrible on linux (Linux Mint Debian in my case). I attach 2 screenshots, one of 3.7.2 and 4.2RC3. Note that I did _not_ install eclipse via distribution packages. Instead I use the downloads provided by eclipse.org. Thomas, were you using any eclipse themes in your workspace prior to launching 4.2 on it? If you go to the Preferences>General>Appearance page does it show GTK as the theme selected? Do you have a GTK theme set, similar to bug 372448 comment #9 ? PW Created attachment 217419 [details]
eclipse 4.2RC3 with Lightening theme
a) 4.2RC3 was run with fresh workspace. 3.7.2 used an existing worksapce.
b) Yes, Preferences>General>Appearance shows GTK. However, the other themes look just as bad (just differnet colors, the layout (e.g. the normal sized button with tiny separators) and font (e.g. of the tab titles) are broken in the same way.
BTW, I could not change the font of the tab titles through Preferences>General>Appearance>Colors and Fonts.
c) I use the standard theme on linux mint (Mint-X-Metal-Xfce) with XFCE 4.8. But yea, it's not the default XFCE theme. So I guess that counts as custom theme. I attached an additional screen shot that shows another theme which doesn't look that horrible (I still find the tab title font too large).

We have an open bug trying to find the interaction between non-default themes (as applied by gtk) and our CSS, but you're right it's not fixed in 4.2. The font title is managed by CSS now, see http://wiki.eclipse.org/Eclipse4/CSS for an example of reducing its size. PW Thanks for the information. I suppose it's off-topic for this bug, however I followed the wiki and the edited CSS code always reverts to default after hitting apply. Could you please open a new bug at https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/enter_bug.cgi?product=E4&component=UI Thanx, PW I'm running 4.2.1 and it looks nothing like the screenshot I attached in comment 0. From where I sit, this could be closed fixed. Thanks! |
Created attachment 212801 [details] Screenshot Eclipse SDK Version: 4.2.0 Build id: I20120127-1145 Perhaps it's my computer, but Eclipse 4.2.0 doesn't look nearly as clean or polished than the 3.7 version I was using. See screenshot: 1. Tabs just float in mid-air, vertical lines just end 2. Scroll bars just float in mid-air, aren't tied to anything Apologies if this is a dupe or invalid -- I couldn't find anything already opened in Bugzilla.
