Not sure if it is configurable on the serer side but when sorting by name, putting all the upper case files in front of lower cases does not seems to be natural. In windows explorer, for example, it just "mixed" the upper and lower cases in the alphabetical Order.

Yes this can be configured on the server. This work would tie together with offering case-insensitive search on file name. On the server we would have two fields - one for file name all in lowercase, and another for file name with actual case. We could then sort or search by either field from the client, possibly based on an option setting.

Cool. Regarding all the incoming options, we can plan those in Bug 369816. The current option in the result page is kind of chicken and egg situation: You can't change options before you start search.
