There are several IBM products that wish to use this enhancement that are still built on the Helios base.

I'm not sure about this, as it is an enhancement with public API.

I've check with Dani and he thought this might be possible since it is purely additive and provides a needed function.

Backport to R3_6_maintenance and R3_6_maintenance_Java7 has been done (see
details below). The backport to R3_7_maintenance will be done once we shipped
3.7.2 (next week).
