+1 for delegating, as it also is simpler. I'll be taking a look at what is going in the proto editor. If 2.3.0 introduces spell checking, then I can remove my own implementation. The real problem would be if there are other Xtext editors making assumptions similar to the the one made by the proto editor. If the user binds an own service that was returned directly in previous version of xtext from certain getter but is wrapped / altered in 2.3, people will be surprised. I see. pushed patch pls review Looks good to me. The @Inject from the constructor of XtextSpellingReconcileStrategy is misleading, as this class is no longer instantiated using DI. As it is a strategy I'd expect it to be configurable in the module. OTOH, the superclass requires the source viewer to be present in the constructor call. I stumbled aross this when trying to fix Xdoc, which had already been migrated to the 2.3 API :-) If we can live with the fact that this class is not instantiated y the injector, we should add a javadoc and remove the @Inject annotation. The spelling startegy could not be overridden at all, as the constructor call was within the same method as the assignment to a private field. I introduced a factory such that the spell checking startegy can be overridden in a suggestive way, e.g. by Xdoc. Possible solution (if we consider this to be a problem): Delegate to Spellchecker from Xtext reconciler and remove CompositeReconcilingStrategy.
