why do we have the new hover annotation for current line?  I find it distracting.  If we need that annotation for some other reason, can we squelch the hover?

it can be useful when you scroll the caret line out of the view. You can jump back to it by clicking on the annotation on the overview ruler.

but I agree, this could be made into a preference.

Susan, which hover is distracting for you: the one over the ruler or the one over the text?

I am assuming it is the one over the text which is quite useless. The one over the ruler is useful as Felipe mentioned.

This started happening when I added the annotations priority.

yes, it was the one over the text.  Agree the other is useful.
