Please could we have Delete only removing items from view instead of deleting them?

This has been already implemented with the "Remove from View" action. Please, check it out.

Nope, hitting delete key actually deletes the resource.

We are not planning to change the default binding for "Delete" i.e. "Del" key. You can try to do this on your own by visiting the "Keys" pref page.
