there is couple functionality I'm missing in the git status page.

- in the 'Recent commits on origin/master' box I have the options to fetch and merge. But I don't have the option to rebase. Please add rebase.

- it would also be nice to know how many commits master is ahead of origin/master or vice-versa, or the branches have diverged. Like the command like version of git status provide.

See also bug 359621. I want to have the information of how many commits your active branch is ahead its remote tracking branch there.

Rebase is added to the new git status page. You can also see all incoming and outgoing commits. Marking fixed.
