Description

It would also be great if we could get access to the tutorial info that a logged in user has choosen (Monday tutorial). That way we could indicate that to this person in the conference program app. We will have a list of people who have registered for tutorials with the email address they used to register. As long as there isn't a privacy concern about sharing this info, we can give you the lists. On the registration page we do say that by signing up for a tutorial, the registrant agrees to provide their email address so they can be contacted by the tutorial presenter, so maybe that (sort of) covers us? My understanding is that the Foundation needs to be careful about sharing personal information provided to us, such as email addresses used by conference registrants. People do get awfully sensitive about personal info. I figure the first time you identify yourself to a computer you can't take it back, so you might as well just relax about it. :-) @Chris: The session data from the URL contains one entry that is not scheduled.

It has a date of 1970-01-01 (see above).
Is it possible to filter sessions that dont have schedule date yet ? It does not make much sense to send them over the wire.

If there is a privacy concern by a user he just doesnt log in within the app and that way we never get that information. (since 90-95 % of the app will work without log in, that isnt a big disadvantage for the user) (In reply to comment #3) > @Chris: The session data from the URL contains one entry that is not scheduled. > > { > "id" : "347", > "title" : "Successful PaaS and CI in the Cloud", > "abstract" : "Speaker: Steven Harris - Senior VP of > Products\r\nUsing Infrastructure as a Service in the cloud is a no-brainer for > every startup today, and increasingly in the enterprise. Hi Chris, I am aware of that. However someone has to filter it, since having a session that is not scheduled (or scheduled on a strange date) will confuse the apps. Either each developer has to put a filter in (to remove this session) or you do it in a central place. From my past experience with conference data it will happen again that sessions are added without being scheduled. And it will happen again in the next conference. (and we plan to reuse this software right ?) So I rather not get that data and have that filter at your side, if that is possible. Does that make sense ? christian ..... > > Hi Chris, > ..... > From my past experience with conference data it will happen again that sessions > are added without being scheduled. The twitter handle is now included in the feed. I also did some work on the special character problem. Alexander Nyßen was showing with strange characters. It's not the case anymore. thanks I created the news feed : http://eclipsecon.org/2012/news.xml Created attachment 208449 [details]
Node.js code for filtering abstracts and titles
Here's the relevant part of the node.js app I used to fix broken HTML, superfluous linebreaks, eliminate superfluous HTML code (like the sponsor images in the title of a talk).
I omitted the rest of the application as the filtering really takes place in this file (using regex), so you should get an idea of what is relevant.
We had an API in the past to receive speakers pictures. So for example for ECE 2011 my speaker id was 18 and I could receive my own picture under the URL http://www.eclipsecon.org/sites/default/files/pictures/picture-18.png With ECON2012, my speaker id is 101, but I am not sure how to retrieve my pic. I tried a number of things. My profile seems to refer to it as https://www.eclipsecon.org/2012/users/christiancampocompeoplede which is not really good, because we cant refer to it that way in our mobile app. The conference system seems to have given me a speaker-short name "christiancampocompeoplede" which is not in the metadata. So I guess an access over the speaker it like before would be good. Created attachment 208897 [details]
Current state of the iPad app
any feedback welcome…..this screenshot shows the current unfinished state of the iPad app, with the current available data.

ipad app springboard icon
I have spent a little time, creating a springboard / launcher icon for the iPad app. Maybe we all like to agree on this one and save some time. I know we need a 512x512 version before we submit to Apple. I can do that later. Currently just collecting input whether we should agree on one icon….. (In reply to comment #13) > Created attachment 208897 [details] > Current state of the iPad app The iPad design looks OK to me, though I must admit it very much looks like a website - is this intended? No I didnt. I think it might just look like that in a screen shot, but it still has all the iPad popover dialogs that will make it more look like an iPad thing. If you have any suggestions just take Skitch or whatever you use and make your annotation on the picture. I very much welcome feedback. So in other words its more my limited imagination than my intention to make it look like a website :-) Created attachment 209080 [details]
ipad icon exemple
(In reply to comment #19) > Created attachment 209080 [details] > ipad icon exemple The icon looks good my issue is that the fonts is different. What do you think of this one? What do you think > of this one? I am all for using your icon. :-) I am just an amateur in this area. For Apple appstore we however need a 72x72 version and a 512x512 version of the same icon. They use the larger version in their appstore. Talking about things we need……. These are like maps of the conference area of the rooms if you have that sooner or later….. We talked about icons of the +1,0-1 buckets that we were going to offer to vote. What is the timeplan for offering API extensions (login, voting, favorites loading and saving) ? Zip file of the 2icon format for the ipad app
I've attach both file size in a zip file.

Concerning the timeplan for the API : We will be using the http://drupal.org/project/services module for the API extension. Before I can install this module on our server we need to update it. The webmaster team created for me a testing server to test the econ2012 website with the applied updates. I am expecting some issues with the authentication mechanism with the new updates so I need to be sure that this is working correctly. Once I am done testing and making sure that everything is working fine. The webmaster team will apply the update to the production server. We might have to close the website for a few hours while the update are being applied. Once this is done I should be able to install and config the services module on the website. We will then review internally the API and if all is well then I will then give you access to the API. Hope this works with you guys? (In reply to comment #23) > Created attachment 209083 [details] > Zip file of the 2icon format for the ipad app > > I've attach both file size in a zip file. thx for the Icons - both sizes are very well for BlackBerry Smartphone APP and AppWorld (In reply to comment #22) > Talking about things we need……. > > These are like maps of the conference area of the rooms if you have that sooner > or later….. would be great to have these Images soon (In reply to comment #26) > (In reply to comment #22) > > Talking about things we need……. > > > > These are like maps of the conference area of the rooms if you have that sooner > > or later….. > > would be great to have these Images soon I will talk with Anne today about this. photo of voting buckets
I really like the idea of having small bucket icons that the user can click on to vote. It would be cool if we could have a green bucket with a +1 on it, and white bucket with a 0 on it, and a red bucket with a -1 on it -- I'm attaching a photo of the buckets since Chris hasn't seen them.
Chris, we can also have our graphic designer James create the icons if you don't have time -- just let me know.

I've asked MeetGreen to contact James (graphic designer) to see if he can start on the image now. I'll report back on that. When do you guys need the map image for the apps? bucket image (for icon?)
Would an image like this work for a voting icon -- I am envisioning three images, one for each type of vote (+1 green bucket, -1 red bucket, 0 bucket in blue or blak since white might not work).
Also, when would you need the final images? And what format, size, resolution?

Sorry Chris for not replying earlier….Is there a date by which you estimate that could be realisticlly finished ? Or at least a week by which you are planning to have that finished. I still expect a few between you and the apps developer before everyone is happy.. (In reply to comment #30) > Created attachment 209282 [details] > bucket image (for icon?) > > Would an image like this work for a voting icon -- I am envisioning three > images, one for each type of vote (+1 green bucket, -1 red bucket, 0 bucket in > blue or blak since white might not work). > > Also, when would you need the final images? And what format, size, resolution? (this is my opinion an only mine) The buttons (i.e. the favorites buttons) have a size of 43 x 43. Most clickable (actually touchable) buttons are around 40 pixels in height. That also one of the recommendations of Apple for minimum size for something that you can touch with your finger. So any bucket I believe should be 40 pixels in height as a maximum is what I am getting at. Actually you still need borders and that kind of stuff. I am a little pesimistic about dark on dark color contrast. So I think a dark red, deserves a light, maybe white text color. I believe I already saw coloured buckets in earlier versions of eclipecon.org for 2012. (when there was still a call for papers or something). I think you showed alread red, green and white buckets. Maybe Chris remembers that. I also personally dont think that the handle on the top of the bucket in the attachment is necessary. At least not standing up, given the size limitations that we have. We can still argue whether we should have maybe 50 x 50 pixel. The current attachment pic is 158x228 which is at least not what we need at the end. Once we agree on sizes etc. I think we can agree that end of the month is sufficient. However we have to be carefully with pushing everything to the back. If we pile more and more work to the end of the month then there is a danger that we build a mountain of work there that no one can possibly do. So I rather vote for digging out the pics that I remember seeing, agree on small changes if necessary and tick that todo off our list. (In reply to comment #32) > (In reply to comment #30) > > Created attachment 209282 [details] > > > > So I rather vote for digging out the pics that I remember seeing, agree on > small changes if necessary and tick that todo off our list. Thanks for the info. I do have a photo of the buckets, but I was picturing three different icons lined up together so that a user could just click/tap on the one they wanted to use for voting, and the correct vote would be registered. If it can't work that way or we don't want it to, and we just need a general icon for someone to click on to go to a voting screen, for example, I think Chris could definitely just use the photo I have to create something. I'll attach a smallish version of the photo to this bug -- I have a higher res one too. (In reply to comment #33) I'll > attach a smallish version of the photo to this bug -- I have a higher res one > too. Geeze, where is my head? I already attached the photo yesterday. Also, if necessary, I can go over to MeetGreen where the buckets are stored and take a different photo or photos of them. I can arrange them so the image could be a square and then turned into an icon. The category attribute contains URLs that contain double quotes, thereby prematurely terminating the attribute value. I suggest to not output URLs in the category field at all. As far as I can see, none of the apps does currently make use of the URLs anyway. All we need is the title of the category in JSON-safe notation. I fully agree, as an example the current session data contains "organization" : "", "interests" : "" } ], "category" : "<a href="/2012/program/sessions/accepted?field_track_value_many_to_one=Eclipse Platform/Eclipse 4">Eclipse Platform/Eclipse 4</a>", "room" : "Room 1", "type" : "Standard", Now the HTML code in the category is not what we can process or need……. In earlier versions it used to be….. "organization" : "", "interests" : "" } ], "category" : "Eclipse Platform/Eclipse 4", "room" : "Room 1", "type" : "Standard", which is what we need. I broke sometime in the last weeks…... Can somebody give us an update about where we are concerning - map images - the new services for drupal (authentication, favorites, voting) if you are trying the new services on a testsystem, it would also be helpful for us to get to the testsystem (if that is an option) to get an understanding of what to expect, API wise….The relax the pressure a little, if we can get an earlier access to some kind of implementation of the services…..It doesnt have to be the productive system….. For the API here is some information on how to expect it will work. https://gist.github.com/affc9864487bb1b9c918 I am planning to work on this again on Thursday and Friday. Hopefully this will be enough time for me to have everything ready! This is currently not enabled on the production server. two red bucket imagaes
(In reply to comment #53) > Created attachment 209652 [details] > two red bucket imagaes these images are ok for me I like the IMG_8721_1pse ekke Hi guys, A quick update : I did not have the time to setup the API yet. I am planning to have this done by the end of the week. Sorry if this causes any inconveniences. am I missing something or is there anywhere a mapping between Room1, Room 2 ..... and the Room Names from floorplan images ? (In reply to comment #56) > am I missing something or is there anywhere a mapping between > Room1, Room 2 ..... > and the Room Names from floorplan images ? usually the foundation will rename the rooms later in the process when they figured out which talk attracts how many people. Room 1 and Room 2 are place holders….. There is no placeholder but they will simply be replaced with the REAL roomnames inside the metadata. (In reply to comment #57) > (In reply to comment #56) > > am I missing something or is there anywhere a mapping between > > Room1, Room 2 ..... > > and the Room Names from floorplan images ? > > usually the foundation will rename the rooms later in the process when they > figured out which talk attracts how many people. The bucket images are fairly ok. We need to resize them and then see how we visualize into which bucket the user decided to throw his/her vote. The larger map plan looks good to me. Concerning services I believe we are far behind probably because there are so many other things that Chris or others working on this have to do. (I am speculating) From my perspective I would really be happy if we get at least voting going. I dont expect the favorites synchronized. That would be too optimistic to expect that. Any outlook for a timeline, when we can start testing a voting service ? christian (In reply to comment #59) > So where are we ? > > The bucket images are fairly ok. I am happy to resize them if you give me the dimensions. Right now they are 72 dpi, 1600 x 1341. Please note that the floor plan map will be updated later. Is that a problem? The final image should be done before March 1. Created attachment 210349 [details]

I started making some test yesterday. My main concern right now is security. The features that I am working on is the ability to login using the apps (this is necessary to submit feedback.) and the ability to submit the feedback. If possible I will see if I can also configure the website to allow the favorites to synchronized. I am hoping and aiming to get this working for the end of the week since I know you guys are waiting for this. Please let me know if I forgot to mention a feature the api should support. thanks I dont think you did (forget anything)….. I highly recommend that you concentrate on one thing…(like having authentication and voting) and only once that completly finished (so we can use it) try the other….. We also need to implement it and the later we can start, the more unlikely things can get…. I think you need to keep in mind that at least I will only start, once I see a working service that I can test against. Also maybe there is some testdata that we can run against, or we can start some test voting against the regular sessions and you reset the votes at a certain point in time. You are right my priority today is getting Oauth and the ability to login/logout configured. Tomorrow is all about the voting. Once things are all sorted out I will be sending emails with the necessary detail to connect to the api. Guys, it's been a week or so. How are you all doing? Do you need anything from me or Chris right now? Thanks. (In reply to comment #65) > Guys, it's been a week or so. How are you all doing? Do you need anything from > me or Chris right now? Thanks. Not sure where Peter and Ekke are. I noticed I received a invitation to look at a beta version of his iPhone app. So he must have some beta version ready. I think the floor plan is good to use. I was thinking of adding a map of the Reston town center but I probably get that somewhere from the internet myself. I admit that I have been pretty busy lately. I apologize for not coming back with feedback. I looked at the email from Chris again. As far as I can tell he enabled login and logout but none of the other services (vote, comments) or at least he didnt mention any of them. I really think that we should have a complete setup before I try to program against it. From the selected list of options I think json or www-form-urlencoded will work for most people. Do we all have to agree on one way to access the API or can everybody just make his pick ? If you could enable Voting say tomorrow if possible or maybe its already there then I can try to play around with it over the weekend. Maybe Ekke and Peter can also comment on their status….. Hi again -- I'm writing the content for the printed program -- is this correct and complete enough? Thanks. Our app team comes through again! Christian Campo, Peter Friese, and Ekke Gentz have created EclipseCon 2012 apps for iPad, iPhone, Android, and BlackBerry. Go to your device's app store for the free download. Hi Christian, you are right currently it's only possible to login/logout. I was hoping to get feedback on this feature to make sure that my setup actually works for you guys. I did the install for the feedback module yesterday. I will enable this feature tomorrow and send another email on how to use it. If possible i was hoping that everyone would agree on one in case something goes wrong it will be easier for me to debug but if you guys need them all I will keep then enabled. I'm super busy ATM so I doubt I'll be able to integrate the extended API in the apps. I plan on publishing the iPhone app soon and maybe an update towards the end of February. In the meantime, I'll see what I can do w.r.t the Android app. Time permitting, I'll have a look at the extended API. basic bucket icons
Hi
I have created basic bucket icons. I would like to know if we should use them in our mobile apps and website. If someone created something better I am also open to that.

It looks black and it's traditional to have green. Yellow is good for the 0 and the red is perfect. Created attachment 211129 [details]
basic bucket icons V2
You are right Anne, the green was quite a dark green. I made the require adjustment to it.

updated floor plan in eps format
New floor plan -- slightly changed from the previous one to eliminate showing sponsor booths where we don't actually have them.
Hi -- I'm with a friend who downloaded the Android version. Looks good -- except that at the top of the schedule where the "column heads" are -- there are two labels that say Wednesday and no Thursday. The Thursday schedule is correct -- it's just the label at the top that's wrong. (In reply to comment #81) > Hi -- I'm with a friend who downloaded the Android version. The Thursday schedule is > correct -- it's just the label at the top that's wrong. just read about the Android App and installed on my Google Galaxy Nexus (ICS 4.0) splash screen appears, schedule of first day is visible in the background, but a button appears that the APP was finished. restarted the device - same behaviour - cannot use the app - perhaps a 4.0 problem ? BlackBerry APP for Econ 2012 now available at AppWorld to download: http://j.mp/bb-appworld-econ2012 documentation here: http://j.mp/bb-app-econ-usa-2012 login and voting will follow for the next conference in europe - also then a PlayBook APP unfortunately same week I'm at MTC in Munich, so I'm not at Econ USA this year. The Thursday schedule is > correct -- it's just the label at the top that's wrong. I just published an updated version of the app - should be live any minute. Let me know if there are still issues. habs grad unter ICS 4.0 am Galaxy Nexus getestet - lädt, man sieht was im hintergrund, wird aber sofort wieder beendet. I have an issue with the EclipseCon 2013 iOS (iPhone and iPad) app. It also existed in 2012 I believe. It is simply this - if I mark/favourite a talk via the web interface, to build my schedule - then I EXPECT that to be reflected in the app (both iPad and iPhone). Instead, I seem to have to mark the same things in the apps as well - this makes no sense. Doesn't the EclipseCon backend API support this? Where is the API documented? (In reply to comment #86) > I have an issue with the EclipseCon 2013 iOS (iPhone and iPad) app. It also > existed in 2012 I believe. > > It is simply this - if I mark/favourite a talk via the web interface, to > build my schedule - then I EXPECT that to be reflected in the app (both iPad > and iPhone). Hi Andy, I think I understand your frustration and your expectation. All the apps maintain their favorite locally in their database and dont sync it with the website. The reason is mostly that in the past before the Eclipse Foundation used DRUPAL to host their conference system (and the mobile apps already existed) there was not favorites that you could mark on the website. (probably around 2011) So the mobile apps developers maintained the state on the devices. Now yes it would be helpful to change and sync with the website. However it takes time and resource to do this. The iPhone, iPad and Blackberry apps are built by some people (like myself who builds the iPad app) in their free time. (you would call it weekend) And I have literally spent in the meantime several weeks creating and maintaining the iPad app. I am not paid for this by anyone, not my company, not the Eclipse Foundation and the app is free for download, right ? So yes adding this feature would be a good thing. However keep in mind that this is volunteering work. I built it mainly with my own usecase in mind where I dont use the favorites of the website at all. I understand that others have different usecases. I hope you understand my point of view christian campo Hi Christian, thanks very much for that (and also thank you VERY MUCH for the work on the app, which I use and appreciate). I guess I was more looking for a way of providing feedback on mobile apps related to EclipseCon as a whole. This is very much an enhancement / feature request and it could be that work is needed on both the backend infrastructure, and in the apps themselves, to enable this to happen. Like you I'm not paid to contribute to Eclipse projects or side projects so I totally understand, take this as a enh+1 not a demand/criticism :-) In the interim, just having a note somewhere in the help / appstore info / anywhere that the favourites are not synced between apps and site would save confusion for others? (In reply to comment #88) > Hi Christian, thanks very much for that (and also thank you VERY MUCH for > the work on the app, which I use and appreciate). > > I guess I was more looking for a way of providing feedback on mobile apps > related to EclipseCon as a whole. > > This is very much an enhancement / feature request and it could be that work > is needed on both the backend infrastructure, and in the apps themselves, to > enable this to happen. > > Like you I'm not paid to contribute to Eclipse projects or side projects so > I totally understand, take this as a enh+1 not a demand/criticism :-) > > In the interim, just having a note somewhere in the help / appstore info / > anywhere that the favourites are not synced between apps and site would save > confusion for others? Hi Andy, There is an API documentation for Drupals API of EclipseCon. I think Chris Guindon is the right person to add a link to it. (it sort of controls who has access to that documentation) I take your comment as a hint that this is not clear and I should make that clearer. And I think its hightime to get the Feedback Button back, where people can supply feedback about the app. christian This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time.
