It might be useful to provide a "View in browser" (or "Display") action on files.

This would just give you a link to the raw file location, and let your browser decide how to handle it. You could also right-click the link and hit "Save" to download the file.

Fixed with a6acf8803b261664ab540991ad729cf0b8796f5f.
I had a sample site with sound files and wanted to hear them. So saying "View" seemed wrong, I just named the menu item "Raw". There were several ways to go about this, but I ended up implementing it in the webEditingPlugin rather than hard code into fileCommands.

After talking to Libing a bit...wondering if there's value to making this link point to a visual plugin that shows the raw file in an iframe. This way you would have the breadcrumb, related pages, etc....

Yes, it is valuable.
Sometimes searching for an image file, I just wanted to have a chance to look at the git log but the search dialog can't do this even if I can hit a png file. This will at list build a "bridge" for me to easily go further.

When trying this out, "Raw" didn't come across as a descriptive name for something in an "Actions" list. How about "Show in Browser" or "Open with Browser"?

I was following the lead of web interfaces like github or eclipse git, where you typically have a "Raw" link to the file outside of the web app itself. I don't mind changing it, what do others think?
