When working with task you have the option to let Eclipse to do Time Tracking on tasks. 
It would be a great help if the variable for the time spent could be available in the commit template. 

By committing the time spent as a comment I can collect it on the repository side, in my case svn & trac + tracHours-plugin. This will then be used for billing.

Thank you for your request. Unfortunately time tracking does not fall into the scope of the project. The basic facilities included in Mylyn do not have sufficient accuracy and do not allow enough control over the data to enable the level of automated integration suggested. Please check the extension listing for third party extensions that provide more accurate time tracking functionality with advanced repository integration:  http://wiki.eclipse.org/Mylyn/Extensions .
