Currently you have to select an item and go the more menu to move copy it.
When I first tried putting these items in the item level, the performance was unacceptable because the computation was happening too early (bug 338887).

However this bug is now fixed so we should try it again, it's a one-liner.

fixed in 5d287b16cbf484f52deecf6b8d7234586db7f692.
You can now choose move and copy from the item-level menus in the nav.  Thanks for mentioning it, John, I just had to uncomment some code to get it going.
