Steps

Add a file to your local repo
open the status page
execute the 'Discard the selected unstaged change' on the file just added

Result:
- Nothing happens

Expected:
the new file to removed from the view

I understand that checkout in git does not remove new files from repo
- therefore the option should not be there for added files
better option (provide you want follow git rules) would be to replace the checkout action by a clean action for new files.

Personally I would be fine if the Discard action would just work, calling checkout for modified files and clean for new files (implementation detail dictated by git)

Looks like a dupe of bug 361112.
