I appreciate that shell access is now more secure but I realized that I often have issues sending SMTP mail while staying in hotels or on conferences. Then it seems impossible to answer these robot requests by mail. Is there a chance that we can paste the security token into a portal form, too?

We cannot (will not) do this as part of the Developer Portal. We may consider rolling this into the new Project Management Infrastructure (Bug 363868), but I don't think you have that kind of time.

Reassigning to Servers.

Webmaster, might we consider creating a web form of some type?
