The portType attribute of the Role metaclass is typed EJavaObject in partnerlinktype.ecore.
This type is incompatible with BPEL standard and leads to a null field.
This attribute (or reference) should be typed PortType.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. read a BPEL model using as an EMF resource
2. try to navigate in the model: the attribute is null
3.
