Currently, when you install new software, it will be stored under the Eclipse dir under plugins and features.
Imo it would be a great (and easy to implement) enhancement if the newly installed software could be saved on an 'external' folder, that is than linked via a xxx.link file.
So the idea is to have an extra checkbox on "install new software" dialog, like
[] Save in other location
And when you enable this checkbox. a select-folder input field should be enabled where you should enter the tarhet directory.
Under the covers, the instal module only needs to save all files in the given target dir, and create a link file that points to this target in the dropins folder.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Help install new software

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.

If the bug is still relevant, please remove the "stalebug" whiteboard tag.
