there is an update available when i start installing the update it installs perfectly upto 36% and just refuses to go further.

Andyboy, can you be more specific?  Are you trying to update from Eclipse Indigo to Eclipse Indigo SR1?

And ... if it really hangs ("refuses to go further") ... it would be helpful to take and report a "stack dump" to help diagnose your situation.
