The index update starts but stops at some point and fails.
I have also tried to use the UK and Exist mirrors with the same result.
I have tested this with different ISPs to rule out connection problems on their part.

For now the only workaround is to use the netcologne mirror, which is commented out in the repository metadata.

Here the log output:
2011-10-14 10:14:28,381 [Worker-3] INFO o.e.m.c.i.i.nexus.NexusIndexManager - Updating index for repository: central|http://repo1.maven.org/maven2
2011-10-14 10:16:40,710 [Worker-3] ERROR o.e.m.c.i.i.nexus.NexusIndexManager - Unable to update index for central|http://repo1.maven.org/maven2
java.io.IOException: connection timed out to http://mirrors.ibiblio.org/pub/mirrors/maven2/dot-index/nexus-maven-repository-index.zip

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Install latest Eclipse 3.7.1
2.Install latest m2e plugin
3.Try to update index of maven central repository

Maven Central repository redirects index downloads to ibiblio, which has outages from time to time. The problem is intermittent and there is nothing we can do in m2e to solve it.
