Just disabling the "Local Terminal" based on the availability of CDT's PTY library (bug #314193) is a extremely unlucky/unfortunate decision made as it prevents the "Local Terminal" implementation to become the standard framework to integrate local process input/output into an Eclipse view. As a common implementation of this feature is very much desired, the apparently mature implementation of "Local Terminal" does kill off itself by ignoring the Windows 32/64bit platforms. The (TCF) Target Explorer (sub)project would be very happy to drop similar functionality available in the Target Explorer and move on to the more general "Local Terminal" implementation. But we can do so only if the full "Local Terminal" functionality is provided for Windows 23/64bit platforms too.

Note that this has been implemented in a Fork of the TM Terminal,
in Aptana Studio:

It would be great for those forks to contribute back the functionality they have added.
