there seems to be no tool (for linux, acutally ubuntu 11.04.), that is able to render the xls files, that were produced by the xls emitter. OpenOffice fails to open it. I installed microsofts excel viewer via wine, but it also failed opening the file. Current excel version on a windows machine is able to open the file, but it seems, that this is the only possibility to get to the content of a report in excel format. Output of the doc emitter is working with OpenOffice(/LibreOffice) and also with the Wordviewer by Microsoft using wine.
I discussed this in the forum with jason, who asked me to file this as a bug:
http://www.eclipse.org/forums/index.php/t/243226/

(I'm using BIRT 3.7.)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. create report with report engine api and xls emitter
2. try to open it in an ubuntu (/linux) installation
