Trying to clone/fetch a repo with an invalid HEAD hangs. Command line GIT simply states a warning about being unable to checkout.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Setup bare repo w/ invalid HEAD (e.g. pointing to missing master)
2. Clone repo
3. Hangs during checkout phase

I'm having difficulties reproducing this, I tried with an empty bare repository and I was able to successfully clone it using the EGit clone wizard.

Was your repository in step 1 empty or just missing a master ref and HEAD pointing to it?
