Application which uses SWT Ole to render an MSWord document. none

Description Shyam CLA 2011-09-15 16:11:43 EDT
Build Identifier: I20100608-0911

This issue *only* occurs on 64-bit runtime. I cannot duplicate it using 32-bit runtime.

Basically, when using SWT Ole to render an MSWord document, it is popping up a new, external window in order to render the document. If we try excel, powerpoint, etc...it all works fine, this is only an issue with MSWord on the 64-bit runtime.

**Please note, that we have applied the Microsoft registry fix, to enable embedding MS Office documents in IE.
I have attached a snippet for testing it out.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
prereq - use the 64-bit runtime!
1. Execute the snippet i attach to this bug.
2. A file browser will open, choose an .docx file, click OK.
Result: a new, external window opens and renders the document, instead of it being embedded in the application window. If you use the 32-bit runtime, the document is rendered withing the application window.

Here is the registry fix from Microsoft which I mentioned in my bug report:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927009

This fix enables the Office applications to be embedded in IE. It must be installed in order to properly test this issue.

SWT is not doing anything different for 64 bits, I suspect this is a bug in Office.

ops, I didn't mean to close the bug.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.

If the bug is still relevant, please remove the "stalebug" whiteboard tag.
