Our Jenkins is running on Tomcat with certificate-based authentication. If the client doesn't provide a certificate we fall back to form-based authentication. Both login methods aren't supported by the Builds connector yet. See also Bug 356786 for certificate-based login support.

Agreed that this would be a valuable enhancement. This would also help fix bug 355927.

I have committed support for form-based authentication. If your server is protected by HTTP authentication it is now required to explicitly configure this in the build server setting page.
