HTML/PDF output is fine, the XLS generated could not be opened with OpenOffice LibreOffice or ExcelViewer.

I use the attached report and generate xls,it can be opened by openoffice and excel viewer.
Could you provide more detail information about how to reproduce it?
(my enviroment:
 win7 64bit
 excel 2010
 OpenOffice 3.3)

Sorry, the XLS I have attached can be opened with LibreOffice. It however can't be opened in Excel Viewer, the Excel Viewer that I have is 

Microsoft Office Excel Viewer (12.0.6611.1000) MSO (12.0.6607.1000)
which I have downloaded from www.microsoft.com.

Excel viewer only supports Excel files (.xlsx, .xlsm, .xlsb, .xltx, .xltm, .xls, .xlt, .xlm, and .xlw).

BIRT xls emitter is in Xml format.
