1. Navigate > Open Git Commit...
2. Ctrl+F10 > Check 'Show Status Line'
3. Uncheck it now.
4. Start resizing the dialog vertically. You will start seeing the status line in the "background".

Besides altering the layout data, the control itself must also be set to visible. This is a bug in the DetailsContentViewer inner class.
