Description Bryan Hunt CLA 2011-08-25 09:35:56 EDT
I would like to humbly suggest consideration for moving the Eclipse forums to stackoverflow. Facebook recently announced (http://techcrunch.com/2011/08/24/facebook-turns-to-stack-overflow-to-power-developer-forums/) that they are moving their developer forums to stackoverflow and it seems like a good idea that could also translate to the Eclipse community.

Discuss :)

I believe that you can nominate the creation of a SO site yourself. See http://area51.stackexchange.com.

In my wild fantasy world, the "official" Eclipse forums are run by Eclipse enthusiasts and users.

*I* am not going to do it. I feel this is an area where the community can step up and help out.

I understand that position, but the success of such an effort seems likely to depend a lot on how the Eclipse Foundation endorses and promotes such a thing as THE place for community discussions.
Put another way: if eclipse.stackoverflow.com existed in parallel to forums.eclipse.org, I doubt it would garner enough participation to graduate from the area51 incubator.
