Description Kim Moir CLA 2011-08-19 11:48:18 EDT
Hi webmaster

I've been getting disconnected from build.eclipse.org every five minutes even though I have been logged in via ssh doing get migrations. I noticed before that I seem to get disconnected after 15 minutes of inactivity via a ssh sesssion. Has something changed here? This is very disruptive when trying to do git migrations with many consecutive steps :-)

I'm not aware of any changes, and certainly based on the config file time stamp it's been a while since we did change it.

I took a quick peek in the logs but I don't see anything.

-M.

In your .ssh/config file, tune down your keepalive:

ServerAliveInterval 60

Also, before launching migrations, start a screen. Even if you get booted off, you can just reattach to your screen with screen -r

Okay thanks Denis for the suggestions.

Reopening ... seems to be happening to more than one people.

FWIW, the tips from comment 2 still apply since our firewall will terminate idle (ie, no server keepalive) sessions, but I'll look into this further.

Sometimes, this issue makes it impossible to do any work on build.eclipse.org. Just now, my ssh session froze in a matter of seconds after login, three times in a row. It happens while I type, so it can't be a timeout. FWIW, my current IP address is 88.66.5.84, it's Thu Sep 22 15:59:33 EDT 2011. If I can do anything to help diagnoze this problem, please let me know.

Some more detail:
* The tcp connection is still open when this happens, so it's not a disconnect, but the data transfer is just stalled:

netstat -ntp | grep 206.191.52.
tcp 0 576 192.168.10.201:47351 206.191.52.57:22 ESTABLISHED 2349/ssh

* The issue seems to be not specific to ssh, the same happens very frequently when downloading files from the Hudson web interface.

I cannot reproduce this.

I've been connected to build.eclipse.org for almost 2 days now from a remote location, being completely idle overnight, and throughout the day, and I'm not being disconnected.

My .ssh/config file is configured as per comment 3.
Comment 9 Ralf Sternberg CLA 2011-10-10 16:32:12 EDT
It seems that with this setting, this problem has gone away for me too. I could not believe that it was a timeout issue because the connection stalled in the middle of typing, sometimes in a matter of seconds after login, but anyway, since I applied the setting I haven't seen it in a while.

So from my side, the bug can be closed. I'll reopen it if the problem occurs again. Thanks for the suggested fix, I should have tested it earlier.

Fixed, apparently.
