I thought there would be a request for this, but I couldn't find any, so I'll add one:

Eclipse should really allow you to check out different revisions of a project from CVS simulataneously within the same workspace. Without this ability, you have really thrown away half of the advantage of using something like CVS. Yes, you can check out as different workspaces, but having to switch workspaces all the time is a most unsatisfactory solution.

A workaround for the typical use case of working on several branches, or a branch and the trunk, is to save a different project name in (the .project file of) each branch release, but this also means having to update other parts of the setup, like shared launch configurations, which gets a bit tedious.

This applies to other version control systems, too.

I'm dealing with the same problem when backporting a fix to a maintenance stream. I have several workspaces with dozens of projects checked out with a specific tag or branch. I don't switch between them, I simply run several Eclipses at once. The only caveat then is to find the proper instance in the toolbar.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.

If the bug is still relevant, please remove the "stalebug" whiteboard tag.
