I created a new workspace and it didn't happen again. The find/replace dialoge window size seems to be saved in the workspace properties. Nevertheless this is quite confusing because you can't see why the option was missing. One could guess that something's missing here, which you couldn't in the first one. But thanks for your time and quick reaction.
