When running the Connectivity framework on an OSGi-less platform, a client application must configure its default workspace path (as described on http://wiki.eclipse.org/DTP_1.9_M7_New_and_Noteworthy).

If no default workspace path is configured, a NPE is currently thrown.  It should have caught the configuration problem, and throws a more user-friendly exception, with the appropriate error message.

Committed fix to detect missing configuration of default workspace location, and throws an exception with relevant error message.  Tagged with v201108101135.
