Description Mickael Istria CLA 2011-07-21 08:46:34 EDT
Build Identifier:

For GMF wiki, I'd like to insert flash video in the wiki (see http://wiki.eclipse.org/Graphical_Modeling_Framework/Tutorial/Simple_Telecom_Network_-_Flash_Tutorial ). But it seems like this requires a Flash extension to the mediawiki ( http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Flash ).

Would it be possible to provide this extension?

Reproducible: Always

Well the large 'warning this plugin probably isn't safe' at the top of the linked page doesn't really inspire confidence.

As with any request for extensions I'd like to see more 'community' support (+1s) before investigating adding something like this to the wiki.

I fully understand your security concerns. Then I'll try to do some lobbying ;)
Comment 3 Markus Kuppe CLA 2011-07-26 04:03:54 EDT
To avoid vendor look-in, why not use HTML5 instead of Flash?
Comment 4 Denis Roy CLA 2011-07-26 08:50:26 EDT
Actually, allowing anybody with a Bugzilla account to embed Flash content into eclipse.org pages is a non-starter.

I'll close this as WONTFIX . If someone can prove to me that this extension is not a recipe for carnage and disaster, feel free to reopen.

The extension itself is safe, but the SWF content may not be. Is there a way to ensure that a SWF content is safe? Maybe we could set up a process to approve and update SWF files.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of anything that would (easily) make this extension safe.

I trust our committers to put quality content on the wiki, but since anyone on the planet can also put content on the Wiki, we need to keep it locked down.

FWIW, this content would be better served on www.eclipse.org. You could embed all the flash you want there.

Is it possible to host the Flash video and player on www.eclipse.org and to integrate into the wiki documentation via an IFrame?
By the way, the video I'd like to show on GMF wiki was not provided by a committer. Do you have tools to advise in order to check it is safe (seems like it was made with wink)? Or should we have a process to get it approved on www.eclipse.org ?

I suppose so.

If the content was not created by an Eclipse committer, then it needs to go through the legal review process. Open up a CQ using the portal.
