Description Charles Franklin CLA 2011-07-17 11:12:59 EDT
Build Identifier: 20110218-0911 and 20110615-0604

I experienced frequent crashes in helios when I first installed it, but I implemented the various fixes and the crashes stopped. However, recently I've been doing some report development using the BIRT plugin and even when I try to preview an empty report eclipse crashes.I am not seeing anything useful in the /opt/eclipse/.log.

I even tried installing Helios, but I get the same issue. So that made me think that it was a jvm heap size issue. I doubled it in the eclipse.ini, but that still didn't work.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Create a new Report Project
2.Open the new_report.rptdesign
3.Click the preview tab

Edit:I tried installing Indigo and got the same issue

Look for VM hs_err_pid crash logs.
Comment 3 Charles Franklin CLA 2011-07-17 11:55:16 EDT
Thanks for the quick reply!

The last vm crash log was modified Jul 5 located in /home/[user]/. I just started working on BIRT reports 3 days ago. There are no vm crash logs with today's date in that directory. Unless there is another directory that they output to that I'm unaware of.

Also look in the directory where the JRE and the eclipse executable is installed.
Comment 5 Charles Franklin CLA 2011-07-18 08:04:50 EDT
I didn't see any logs in either one of those directories
Comment 6 Oleg Besedin CLA 2011-07-18 09:39:19 EDT
Usual suspects:
- check that you are not running out of PermGen or Heap memory
- check with a clean download of Eclipse and clean workspace
- check with a clean download of JVM

Followed the following steps to no avail. Are you not able to reproduce the issue in a similar environment?
Comment 8 Xiaoying Gu CLA 2011-07-22 00:53:38 EDT
We don't have this issue in our environment.

What's the detail Linux version and JDK version you were using?

shows errors associated with eclipse crash

I had given up on working on reports in Fedora and since moved to Windows for reports and they work fine there. However, I don't want to have to switch OS's in order to work on reports.

I have come back to troubleshooting reports in Fedora and I noticed a file, .xsession-errors, that gets updated everytime eclipse crashes. I've tried to make sense of whats in the file, but I can't. Maybe whats contained in this file will make sense to you guys.

Please take a look at the enclosed attachment.
