I have a big untracked text file in project directory. 
egit compare and egit commit performs very slow (~4-10 minutes) where as commandline version are instant


Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.add a big text file (1MB+) in project directory
2. try egit compare
3. go to shell
4. try git diff

Since the report is a bit old, can you check that this is still a problem with the latest milestone build of Eclipse. If it still is i should be reported to Product=Platform, Component=Compare. The reason is the the compare user interface does not use EGit/JGit's compare. 

As for commit, as far as I know, adding a 1 MB files is pretty quick. If not, please create a new report.
