Description muis IT CLA 2011-07-08 03:29:01 EDT
Build Identifier: M20100211-1343

When I enter text in the time entry comment field for new time entries, the cursor jumps back to the top-left.
When I type 'hello', it ends up as 'olleh'
When I have multi-line text, it jumps back to top-left
When I enter RTL text (for testing purposes), the cursor also jumps back to top-left (there was a suggestion on the internet that it could relate to RTL/LTR switching).

When I write the text elsewhere (for example: in the new comment field above) and then copy-paste it into the time entry field, the text is pasted correctly, but the cursor again jumps back to top-left.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a task
2. Enter text in the comment field for a new time entry
3. Observe cursor jumping to top left after every keyboard entry

I assume the Mylyn version is important as well:
    Mylyn Task List	3.6.0.v20110608-1400
    Mylyn Task-Focused Interface	3.6.0.v20110608-1400

This problem appeared after I restarted Eclipse after the last update to Mylyn.

Which repository/connector are you using?
Comment 3 muis IT CLA 2011-07-22 14:19:35 EDT
Ah yes, that would be important as well of course :)

Redmine

Can you reproduce the problem with the Bugzilla connector as well? Does this happen for all fields or is it limited to the time entry field?
Comment 5 muis IT CLA 2011-07-23 15:12:01 EDT
It is limited to the time entry field. It is reproducible (ie: it happens always since my last update).

I cannot find a similar entry field in Bugzilla, but that could be due to me connecting as anonymous to Eclipse. I do not have a Bugzilla repository with write access available to test. I assume Bugzilla has a time-entry possibility as well, but I take it it has a different GUI code path.

Thanks for clarifying. It sound like this bug is specific to the Redmine connector. That connector is maintained outside of the Mylyn project. Please contact the vendor of the extension for support.

Thanks for your quick investigations, but I beg to differ. The bug came into existence after I upgraded Mylyn to the latest version, not the Redmine-Mylyn connector. That part of the code remained the same ever since I started using it.

Please excuse my lack of knowledge of the code, as I don't know where the time entry field of the Task form comes from. As far as I can see, the Bugzilla entry fields look very similar to the Redmine entry fields, so I assume that Mylyn makes such fields available in some generalised way. I cannot say if the time entry field is part of Mylyn or part of the Redmine connector.

Though if it were the latter solely, the bug would likely not have appeared after an upgrade of the Mylyn code.

This may very well be caused by a bad interaction of the framework and connector but without further input from the Redmine connector developers we unfortunately not be able to investigate the problem further in Mylyn. If you can either reproduce the problem with Trac or Bugzilla or provide input from the Redmine developers which change in the framework affected the connector I'd happy to reopen the bug and look into it.
