org.eclipse.m2e.editor.pom.SearchControl is at the root of the problem for both issues. The filter text field and  the X button are both part of it and they seem to be misaligned vertically (the bottom part of the text field seems to be missing).

The UI inconsistencies are still there, even though this report is quite old.

Fair enough. Perhaps you can tag them with 'helpwanted' ? That should signal that you're not working on them and that external contributions are the way to go.

I closed the bug to indicate m2e development team has no plans to work on this and there is no indication anyone else has such plans either. If somebody feels motivated enough to fix the UI inconsistencies in the future, they can reopen this bugreport or file a new one.

Now that I've seen the screenshot I keep seeing this misalignment all the time in the editor.
