I cannot get Eclipse to filter out files that end in tilde (essentially, the backup files that Emacs creates by default). 

I tried filtering "*~", as well as "*.txt~", but neither works.  I can get other filters like "*.sh" and "*.gz" to work correctly. 

Tested both in a custom navigator and the standard plain-vanilla project navigator.  

My Eclipse install is based on 

Conclusion: something is weird in how files that end in "~" for some reason. 

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Edit a file that is inside an Eclipse workspace using Emacs, or make a copy of a file and name it foo.txt~ or similar. 

2. Right-click on project in the project navigator, go to resource filters 

3. Add a new filter: "Exclude All", "Files", pattern "*~"

4. Apply and close dialog

5. Refresh workspace

6. You still see the foo.txt~ file.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
