When I open the Preferences dialogue, it opens in the "General" settings page. I can select a different page from the list at the left (eg. Tasks/Resource), but the panel on the right does not change. It remains at the General settings page. In addition the filter box above the list on the left is now flickering as if it is being continually redrawn.

I cannot reproduce this on latest 3.7 or 4.1 builds. Are you using 3.7 or 4.1?

The official install neither has a "Tasks/Resource" nor a "Tasks" nor a "Resource" page but from what you wrote I guess it doesn't matter which node you select on the left side, correct?

Can you reproduce the problem? If so, can you check whether there is something in the Error log (either open the 'Error Log' view or go to <your-workspace>/.metadata/.log).
