We are still in the planning stages for the next major release of Eclipse BIRT, and we will be determining features based on resources and community votes. So please +1 this bugzilla. BTW Actuate allows for export to the Office 2007 formats in the commercial version of BIRT.

@Neil: you can vote for that proposal (+1). There is a link at the top of the page (look for "Importance: P3 normal (vote)")

I have the same problem using Office 2010.
The problem is linked to a RTC trouble report: PMR 50506,650,768.
There is a prevision for the fixing of this issue?

It's worth noting that there are a few commercial and/or open source emitters that do support XLSX.

I am about to download the source and see what I can do about this. Don't expect much; I'm a hobbyist programmer with limited Java experience.

More importantly, HERE IS A TEMPORARY WORK-AROUND:

Export the report as .ppt file. If you try and open this in PowerPoint 2010, it will throw an error. Rename the file, changing the file extension from .ppt to .pht. Then open it in PowerPoint. The report should come up as expected. Just be sure to File > Save As.. and save it as a regular (.pptx) presentation.

This won't let you dynamically generate reports in .pptx format, but it will at least let you view them manually.

Hi, I opened this bug a long time ago and it is getting pretty urgent now. Do we have a decision on if this will be implemented? Please advise.

Is this feature planned for future BIRT release ? if yes, which release and when such release is expected to be officially published ?
Comment 19 Debbie Massyn CLA 2014-03-20 18:32:59 EDT
Charles Knight, I tried your suggestion (thank you for it) and by changing the format to .pht I can then see the report graphs but cannot get past the "Powerpoint has stopped working" error message. We have Powerpoint 2013 which might be why?? I've tried all sorts of tricks to get the .pht to open, but no joy (changed Powerpoint Trust Centre setting, File Properties, Powerpoint Trusted Locations etc etc).
There just seems to be no way to get to the "Save As" option :(
I have added a vote, which appears all I can do for now.

Just to illustrate that the BIRT report content is actually visible in the .pht format, but that Powerpoint (2013) won't open it. The .ppt extension doesn't get this far - you never see the content in the background.
Comment 21 ShiHeng Guan CLA 2015-11-16 13:34:22 EST
both formats are supported in mars
Comment 22 Galina Derenshteyn CLA 2019-05-21 17:31:45 EDT
These formats support in BIRT v.4.9
