please check the red boxed section in the attached image. Believe its the TitleAreaDialog that has a title and description that doesnt change to the systems font size. Moving to JDT I cannot reproduce this. Maybe the font got manually changed while testing. Created attachment 197478 [details]

Attached couple of screen shots from Eclipse 342 and 362 . Even after restarting the eclipse IDE (after changing the system font size) the title message doesnt seem to change to bigger font.This is reproducible on Windows XP . Please try it with a fresh workspace. This really looks like you've modified the Banner Font manually. Or the font file is corrupted on your machine so that it cannot be rendered in bigger sizes. ok. yes it was a new workspace .well i can try it on a diff windows xp machine and will let u know. I created a new workspace and tried with 37Rc4 on two diff XP machines and i can see that title (which may be called Banner font) doesn't change the font size. However the description changes to the systems font size. Happens with all eclipse wizards.Attached is another screen shot at startup. When i looked into Eclipse preferences under colors and fonts, the banner font size is set to 10 Tahoma Bold. Believe this is what is getting used for all eclipse wizard and doesn't change when the default system font changes size. Created attachment 197720 [details]

I can reproduce the too-small font in the workspace chooser dialog on startup, but that is a separate problem (at that time, no workspace with font settings is available, and we don't seem to have special code to handle high contrast mode there). Afterwards, the default Banner Font I get on Windows XP is Tahoma Regular 18 (same as the default Dialog Font). This is also correct in File > Switch Workspace > Other... . Interesting.. Mine (the banner font) still shows as 10 bold even after restarting PDE . so the question is - how did u change the windows font size on your machine? I am able to consistently see across all eclipse windows/dialogs that the Banner font size stays constant size(@ 10). > how did u change the windows font size on your machine?
When I enable High Contrast by pressing Alt+Shift+PrtSc, this also sets the font size on Display Properties > Appearance to Large. But that doesn't matter, since org.eclipse.ui.internal.themes.ThemeElementHelper.installFont(..) uses the default font everywhere when you launch in High Contrast mode anyway.
If you choose to ignore the dialog that tells you to restart Eclipse after switching the High Contrast OS setting, then all bad things are expected and your fault, including e.g. the mixed fonts in the first attachment.
If you've opened the Colors and Fonts preference page after ignoring the restart message, then you can end up with a bad state in that workspace.
Just go to the Colors and Fonts preference page, click Restore Defaults, and then OK.
Another setting that could cause problems is the "Current theme" on the Appearance preference page: If you switch to High Contrast mode, this should automatically be set to "Reduced palette". If you change this to Default, this can also change some fonts.
Markus Thanks a lot for providing all this info. I guess it just depends on how we enable the system settings. used the ALT+SHIFT+PRTSC and everything seems to be working fine as u mentioned. Thanks again !!! |
