From the JAXB 2.2 spec (8.9.14.2)

- The only additional mapping annotations allowed with @XmlMixed are: @XmlElementRef, @XmlAnyElement, @XmlJavaTypeAdapter.

This validation has been added for 3.1 M3.

There are a few other warning-type validations that might be added, but those should be detailed in a new enhancement request.
