screen shot of dialog

I tried the Java IDE Package, RC3, and was surprised to see a message about my use of Compiz WM and offscreen previewing.

That is, I was surprised because ... lets say ... I just was going to write some Java code, and all of a sudden I'm being shown dialogs and forced to make choices about window management right at the beginning.

I see now Markus commented on this bug 343869#c23 ... but, I think deserves it own bug. Its fairly "unfriendly" Eclipse behavior for any plugin/component to think they are the "main" one and all users want to hear about them.

Far better to have has a user preference somewhere.

Thanks for the bug report David. I think the dialog has been changed so that it only comes up when the bundle is activated (bug 343869#c27).

I guess you mean fixed in RC4? I was testing RC3 packages. If so, feel free to mark as fixed, or dup.

Thanks very much.

The fix has been submitted to SVN and will be in the next build later today.

A bit of background on this...this particular behavior was a result of WB's legacy status as a standalone plugin that a user would proactively install. The question was meant to be asked only once and immediately after restart during the install process. It is also only asked of about 1-2% of users...only those on Linux who are using the Compiz WM (which itself has some very unfriendly default behavior relative to other Linux WMs, Windows and OSX).

We agree that in the case where WB is pre-installed and you may not ever intend to use it, it is an unnecessary, intrusive, and unfriendly question. We have changed it so that it is asked once when the user first uses WB (and only to those 1-2% of users using Compiz).
