In org.eclipse.xtext.validation.AbstractDeclarativeValidator.DiagnosticImpl.toString(), line 560:

result.append(((EObject) source.eGet(feat)).eClass().getName());

If feat is optional (i. e. its value for source is null), this leads to an NPE.
