every few month i accidently hit the menu entry "Show in Breadcrumbs" and get that unwanted bread crumbs bar on top of the editor.
as easy as it is to get it, as hard is it to get rid of it -- always need to check google for the answer (and the shortcut assigned the last time and forgotten by stopped working already) and finally find that there's a button "toggle breadcrumb" on the main toolbar.

that's definitely the wrong location -- if i can enable breadcrumbs from the context menu of the editor, i must be able to disable it again from there (and, please, TOGGLE! not two entries "enable" and "disable")!
and at least the "toggle breadcrumb" button has to be on the bread crum bar itself!

The context menu is already quite big. We could add the [x] to the right of the breadcrumb. It should be quite intuitive to close then.

'Hide Breadcrumb' is already available in the context menu of the breadcrumb.

Only since 3.7, that is. (bug 310470)

A close box would steal screen real estate for a rarely used function. I think the context menu on the breadcrumb is all we need. Though it would be nice if Hide Breadcumb would also be available on the triangles and on empty areas of the breadcrumb bar.

Do you really ever need the space on the very right side of the breadcrumb bar?

Yes! See also bug 334742, which talks about what to hide in case we run out of space :)

Well, even in the picture you added there, we have tons of space on the right side ;-).

I think it would look nice if we have the [x] on the right. And this wouldn't take too much space away in my opinion.
