as much as I love the new feature in 3.7 (p2 import/export feature)
I am missing support for local eclipse installations.

the export to p2f is _only_ a reference to the original p2 update site.
And this can really be a problem in practice as sometimes (of worse often) a certain version has been removed from the update site.

removing stuff from update site is bad practice, I know but this is how it happens.

I often want to mirror additional plugins that I have already in a certain eclipse installation. This is done with a easy trick:

Just add a local update site eclipse/p2/org.eclipse.equinox.p2.engine/profileRegistry/SDKProfile.profile/ as
and you are done. Is it such simple as that.

Why does the new "Install Software items to/from file" not obey this possiblity ?

Reproducible: Always

and are there any drawbacks with the method adding a local update site with
eclipse/p2/org.eclipse.equinox.p2.engine/profileRegistry/SDKProfile.profile/

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.

If the bug is still relevant, please remove the "stalebug" whiteboard tag.
