On cygwin I notice with Process Explorer that every few seconds "cygpath" program or two is called. I am sure that contributes to performance problems of egit, see bug 346079, bug 333204 etc. Working under egit is very bumpy.

Alright, did not see the other one at the time of reporting. It's somewhat consoling that you are not infallible either, bug 346303 is this one.
