Currently, when I've staged a file, side-by-side compare shows me diffs between the file in index and working tree. Sometimes it's what I need, but there are cases when I would like to compare the staged file with HEAD i.e. do "git diff --cached".

I think so. At the moment the bug was open we did not have a smarter diffURI but now I am just using the diffURI returned on the the file.
Just double checked that for a staged file the URI looks like :
/gitapi/diff/Cached/file/*****

I think this is what you meant but if otherwise please reopen it.

The comparison worked as expected. I've just wondered if it did so by accident or did you actually fixed it. Now I know it's the latter. Thx!
