If some property ${myproperty}, used in a pom.xml, is defined in settings.xml, hovering over it in the pom will display a popup, showing the resolved value of the property and a "Jump to location" link. However the "jump to..." link is ineffective, I believe because the settings file is outside the workspace. So, either there should be a text saying the property comes from settings.xml, or the link should manage to open the settings.xml.
