Description Sam Davis CLA 2011-05-10 20:04:34 EDT
While a task is submitting, the activate button in the task editor is disabled (like the rest of the task editor), yet it is still possible to (de)activate the task from the task list or to activate a different task. I find I am frequently in the situation of waiting for a slow submit to complete so that I can (de)activate the task (I could do it from the task list but it may not be visible in my task list).

There may be other things that should be allowed during submit, like scheduling, but activation is the one that really annoys me. If your task repository or connection is slow, then the workflow of mark complete, submit, deactivate is slow, and of course deactivating first doesn't work because it closes the task editor. It's the same problem when assigning a task to yourself and then activating it - if you activate first, the task editor closes!

A simple work-around is to use the Shift+Ctrl+F9 key-binding which always works or the context menu of the task editor.

I agree though that the only actions that should be disabled in the task editor toolbar are submit and refresh.

The context menu activate command does not work during submit.
Comment 3 Sam Davis CLA 2011-05-11 11:28:25 EDT
Actually, it does not work at any time. I guess the selection is not set.

Actually, the mark as commands do work from the task editor context menu. It's only the activate command that doesn't work. Even deactivate works. However, if I type in the new comment box, save, activate, deactivate, and then reopen the task, then the activate command consistently works until I clear outgoing. Should I open a separate bug for this?

I think not disabling the task editor (other than refresh) would go a long way toward making slow repositories feel faster, because it would mean you wouldn't always be waiting for the submit to complete before you could so much as scroll the editor. Even submit should be enabled if possible, so that you can make further changes.
